Disney & Pixar’s “Toy Story 5” has reportedly pulled in $312 million in its worldwide opening weekend, with $160 million of that domestic and $152 million from overseas.
It’s the second-best debut weekend worldwide for a Pixar movie (sans China) behind only “Inside Out 2” at $384 million, and the best Friday-Sunday start for a film this year. “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” did a bigger opening at $372.5 million, but that was a five-day (Wed-Sun) total.
It’s also the sixth-highest MPA animated opening weekend of all-time (including China), was the top film in all major markets bar India and Poland, and had the biggest debut in China for the franchise ($18 million).
Spielberg’s “Disclosure Day” is in second place with a $17 million domestic haul – a second weekend drop of 62% domestically which is one of the steeper drops for a Spielberg film. The title pulled in $35.7 million worldwide for the weekend.
Third place is “Obsession,” which made $14.2 million domestically (down 25%) and $25.1 million worldwide in its sixth weekend, followed by “Backrooms” in fourth with $7.3 million domestically (down 37%). That film is expected to hit $300 million worldwide by the end of today – the first A24 film to reach that mark.
In terms of newcomers, “Leviticus” opened in eighth and “The Death of Robin Hood” in ninth with $2.7 million and $2.6 million respectively in the United States.
