Amazon Prime Video has opted not to pick up its adult animated comedy series “Kevin,” the cancellation news coming through two months after the series debuted on the service.
Jason Schwartzman, Aubrey Plaza, Amy Sedaris, John Waters and Whoopi Goldberg were among the cast of the series about an anthropomorphic cat living in New York City who moves into a pet rescue in Astoria, Queens alongside a group of misfit animals. Plaza and Joe Wengert co-created the series.
Speaking about the cancellation on Instagram, Plaza said the news was “very disappointing” and compares it to “Parks and Recreation” which famously struggled in its first season before finding its footing:
“I remember on the early days of Parks & Rec when we all thought we would be cancelled because our ratings weren’t great. Our numbers. But we had some special humans over at NBC that believed in the show and let us grow and let audiences fall in love with our characters.
I was hoping for this for Kevin but sadly we are living in a different time in our industry. I hope the machines won’t ruin everything. Maybe Kevin will find a new owner someday. Love you all very much. Meow.”
The full series is now available to stream on Prime Video and boasts a downright incredible guest cast including the likes of Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Tig Notaro, Cary Elwes, Charles Melton, Quinta Brunson and Addison Rae.
