Blink49 Studios and Incendo are reportedly backing a TV series adaptation of the 1979 bawdy comedy film “Meatballs”.
The original film served as the film career launching point for actor Bill Murray and filmmaker Ivan Reitman, the pair subsequently going on to work together on “Stripes” and “Ghostbusters”.
The new project reimagines the film for Canadian streamer Crave, and is billed as “a coming-of-age way-too late story that’s equal parts sweet and sexy”.
The tale unfolds in a failing summer camp for 200 kids and the 30 counsellors who call it their home away from home.
The plan is for gender role switches to make it more appropriate for a modern audience, but keep it “racy and funny”.
Robbie G.K. (“Heated Rivalry”) will star in the eight-part series. The project is one of several announced for Crave today – others include the half-hour workplace comedy “Golden Mile” and the workplace buddy comedy “Bulges”.
