Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Bob Persichetti, and Justin K. Thompson were on hand at Sony Pictures’ CinemaCon presentation to show off the opening sequence of “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” a full 14 months ahead of the movie’s release in cinemas.
The film, currently slated for a June 18th 2027 release, marks the third of the ‘Spider-Verse’ films and ‘most emotional’ of the series.
The action reportedly picks up right from the end of “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) confronted by his alternate universe version, who is also The Prowler.
After some verbal sparring about name pronunciation, hero Miles tries to explain what’s going on with his situation, which doesn’t do much to help him. Hero Miles then uses his lightning powers to break free.
Cut to a sizzle reel of footage with flashbacks of Aaron and Prowler Miles’ criminal past, complete with a retro aesthetic, along with Gwen Stacy crossing dimensions, Spider-Man 2099 standing by portals, and a very sinister version of The Spot draining the life from the surrounding environment.
The footage was reportedly presented in a 1:43:1 aspect ratio – specifically formatted for premium large-format theaters like IMAX. A few photos from the film have now been released by Sony Pictures and can be seen below.
