De Niro Passed On “The Batman: Part II” Role?

Warner Bros. Pictures

The key role of Christopher Dent in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” still has not been cast, it seems, as rumours of more actors passing on the part emerge.

Scooper Jeff Sneider is claiming that he’s heard that none other than Robert De Niro had been offered the role and passed on it.

Reeves and the studio appear to have been trying to enlist a major star to play the character, the father of Harvey Dent (Sebastian Stan). So far, no one seems to be biting as it remains the one major role in the film yet to be announced.

Previously, it was reported that Brad Pitt, Stellan Skarsgård and Daniel Craig had all passed on the role. One rumour cropped up earlier this week suggesting Viggo Mortensen for the role, but like this De Niro report, it seems speculative (even if the Mortensen option did get a great reception from fans).

One person who may have weighed in on this is the film’s co-writer Mattson Tomlin who posted the tweet: “lolololololol” a few minutes ago, with many responders thinking it is in regards to the De Niro report.

“The Batman: Part II” is rumoured to have District Attorney Harvey Dent (Sebastian Stan), Commissioner James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), and Batman/Bruce Wayne (Robert Pattinson) forming an uneasy alliance to bring down a serial killer and the city’s entrenched mafia power.

Confirmed to be starring in the film alongside Pattinson, Wright and Stan are Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, and presumably Barry Keoghan. Filming on “The Batman: Part II” is expected to kick off in the last week of May in London.
