With filming having begun only a few days ago, the first set photos are out via outlet CinemaWire from Mike Flanagan’s new take on “The Exorcist” for Universal Pictures.
The shots, taken in uptown Manhattan, reveal a scene in which Scarlett Johansson, who plays the lead character who is also the mother of a young boy (Jacobi Jupe), can be seen exiting a building.
With her are Chiwetel Ejiofor in casual gear (along with a nice coat), as well as Flanagan regular Rahul Kohli and former Supergirl Sasha Calle. The latter two are playing detectives/cops in the feature. Other extras playing cops were also spotted.
Further plot and character specifics regarding the film are under wraps, beyond it being a standalone film set within “The Exorcist” universe. Flanagan reportedly has full creative freedom to tell what story he wants.
John Leguizamo, Laurence Fishburne, Diane Lane, Carla Gugino, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Robert Longstreet, Gil Bellows, Matt Biedel and Benjamin Pajak co-star.
Flanagan wrote the script and is directing and producing the film, which is set up at Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment. Universal Pictures will release it theatrically on March 12th 2027.
