Third “28 Years Later” Looking Uncertain?

Sony Pictures

Drawing some of the best reviews of the year so far didn’t help Nia DaCosta’s “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” at the box-office sadly.

The title became available on PVOD today, 30 days after it opened in cinemas, and ended up grossing just $57 million worldwide off a $63 million budget.

That’s considerably down on the $150 million worldwide that Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later” pulled in last year from a $60 million budget, itself seen as a disappointing number at the time.

Now, World of Reel reports that, according to two separate sources, Sony is reportedly in no rush to make the trilogy capper despite greenlighting it in December.

They claim Netflix has shown some interest in acquiring the film, but Boyle is determined to have a theatrical release for the final chapter, which is supposed to star Cillian Murphy.

Critical reaction to both films so far has been quite positive, drawing a 77 for the first and an 81 for the second. Audience reviews were a bit mixed for the first but quite positive for the second.
