Hemsworth Teases ‘Unique’ Future For Thor

Marvel

Six months ago, Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth didn’t seem clear about the future of his Thor character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday”.

Speaking on the BBC back in August, he said: “I don’t know. We’ll see where [Avengers: Doomsday] goes, We’re sort of unpacking all of that as we speak and figuring out where each of these characters goes”

Cut to six months on and, out promoting “Crime 101” currently in cinemas, the actor seems more upbeat about Thor going beyond ‘Doomsday and “Avengers: Secret Wars”.

Speaking on the SmartLess podcast (via The Playlist), Hemsworth indicates there could be a “couple more times” he’ll get to play the character:

“I was talking to Kevin Feige about it, and he said it’s cool because the audience now expects dramatic turns with the character, and whatever we do next – we’ve got some ideas to do something pretty unique again and hopefully be [different].”

Hemsworth also says tone is a balancing act, and what they learned from the previous film was a great example of taking things too far in one direction:

“You do need to be careful. When we made Ragnarok, it was quite a twist, with Taika’s [movie]. And it was so fun. There was a huge appreciation for the shift. And then [with] ‘Love And Thunder,’ it was kind of like a Monty Python sketch, and we took the piss probably a little much, and then there was some backlash. There was this real kind of, ‘Why is he a goofball and why is it like this?’ And, [audiences] violently offended and we were like, ‘Oh, we’re just having fun or trying to try something different.'”

A fifth standalone “Thor” film has yet to be announced. “Avengers: Doomsday” arrives in cinemas on December 18th 2026.
