Don’t Expect Annual “Pluribus” Seasons

Apple TV

“Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan says that those hoping to see a second season of his highly acclaimed sci-fi series “Pluribus” this year are out of luck.

Appearing at Apple TV’s first press day at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar on Tuesday where he was asked about how far he and his team were into writing the second season.

He tells THR that despite Apple handing out a two-season order for the series back in 2022, work is still progressing on the show with the writers currently “plugging away” at it:

“All the folks, if you like the show, thank you for getting us here on this stage. It takes a long time to come up with these episodes. We are deeper into the process at this moment than I would like, considering how few episodes we have figured out. But it takes some time, just as it did the first season.”

He then went on to say this series isn’t like HBO Max’s “The Pitt” where the show can return with a new season annually, as much as he would like that:

“I wish it would be because it’s an awesome show that’s old-school, like we used to do The X-Files [when] we’d come back the same month every year. It will not be like The Pitt. We’ll come back the same month – just the question is what year.”

Due to their mainly single-location and studio set-bound nature, shows like “The Pitt” and “Only Murders on the Building” have been able to return on an annual basis, whereas most cable prestige series, especially any with heavy location filming and larger scale, usually have gaps of around two years (or more).

Despite being set primarily around Carol’s house, “Pluribus” boasts a lot of location filming, outdoor scenes and large-scale production with plenty of extras for each episode.

The nine-episode first season concluded on Christmas Eve last year.
