Apple Sets “Matchbox,” “Dink,” “Mayday” Dates

Apple TV today announced a number of release dates for upcoming original films from the service.

First up, the McG-directed “Way of the Warrior Kid” has secured a November 20th release date. The film is based on the inspiring novel by Jocko Willink.

Chris Pratt, Linda Cardellini and Jude Hill star in the film about a bullied kid who spends the Summer with his decorated and injured Navy SEAL uncle (Pratt) who devises an ambitious program to help Marc defend himself. Will Staples penned the script.

Next, a July 24th release date has been announced for the Summer comedy “The Dink” starring Jake Johnson, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Harris, Patton Oswalt, Chloe Fineman, Chris Parnell, Aaron Chen, Ben Stiller and Andy Roddick.

The story follows a washed-up former tennis prodigy (Johnson) who has been reduced to coaching unruly children at his dad’s suburban country club, who goes against his dad’s wishes and embraces the new sporting craze of the club – pickleball.

Then there’s “Mayday,” a new action comedy film starring Ryan Reynolds, Kenneth Branagh, Maria Bakalova, Marcin Dorociński, and David Morse which will hit the service on September 4th.

In the film and while flying a mission over Soviet Russia, an American soldier is forced to crash-land his plane in the Russian wilderness and hopes to survive. The project hails from “Game Night” and “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

Next, an October 9th release is set for “Matchbox The Movie” based on the iconic Mattel toys line. John Cena, Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Teyonah Parris, Arturo Castro, Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, and Danai Gurira star in the action adventure film.

Directed by Sam Hargrave (“Extraction”), the film is a globetrotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have their lives upended when undercover CIA agent Sean (Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town and unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit to save the world.

Finally, an April 10th premiere date has been set for the Jonah HIll-directed “Outcome” in which he stars alongside Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer. Reeves plays a damaged Hollywood star who must look into his past to confront demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip. Diaz plays his crisis lawyer.
