Oscar winner Angelina Jolie has begun production on “Sunny,” a dark and violent thriller which she’s both starring and producing for Gramercy Park Media, A Higher Standard, and Nickel City Pictures.
Eva Sørhaug (“Tokyo Vice,” “Yellowjackets,” “Talamasca: The Secret Order”) directs the project which is said to be in the spirit of classic mafia films and is said to be a character-driven thriller.
The story follows a female gangster who fights to protect her sons – and herself – from an abusive drug kingpin. But when a devastating event occurs, she only has a matter of hours to plot their permanent escape.
William Day Frank penned the script after conceiving the story with Sørhaug. Jolie, Nathan Klingher, Mark Fasano and Jeffrey Greenstein produce.
Jolie is coming off Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award nominations for her turn as opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s “Maria”. She has multiple films on the way, including Alice Winocour’s “Couture,” Marc Forster comedy Anxious People,” and Doug Liman’s spy thriller “The Initiative”.
Filming is currently taking place ahead of a likely late 2026 release.
