James Gunn has taken to social media to address rumours of Supergirl’s budget, denying a recent report that suggested how much the film is set to cost.
Forbes was the source of the original report, the magazine doing a feature piece on actress Milly Alcock while out promoting her new Netflix series “Sirens”.
The feature indicates the film’s budget sits at around $200 million, however it’s said as an offhand fact as opposed to any specific analysis of the film’s financial elements.
In a post on Threads, Gunn was asked about that figure and shot it down succinctly, saying it is “not even a little bit true.”
At present, it’s unknown what the film’s cost will be, beyond it supposedly being notably lower than the $225 million official budget for “Superman”.
Gunn also spoke about the DC Universe’s Batman, and more specifically, the costume. Asked about potentially including the character’s whited out eyes but with “Deadpool” like movement and capability of expression, Gunn says:
“The most requested thing would be the blue and grey [color scheme]. Then the yellow around the bat. And THEN the white eyes. But all of those things I find less important than the character himself, the writing, and the person who plays him. Individuals are making clear what they want to see. But even the most requested thing – the blue and grey – is split evenly with people who don’t want that. And the other two most requested things are also things just as many people say they don’t want to see. So you have to do what’s right by the specific film and story.”
The comments come after Gunn liked a post last week suggesting former “Superman” candidate Tom Brittney for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the DC Universe.
The “Supergirl” film is currently set for June 26th 2026.
