Having just recently wrapped his role as Ken in Legendary’s new “Street Fighter” movie in Sydney, actor Noah Centineo is trying out another major franchise play.
The “Black Adam,” “Warfare” and “The Recruit” star is in talks to re-team with Legendary on the upcoming live-action “Gundam” movie at Legendary Pictures and Bandai Namco Filmworks.
If the deal goes through, he will join Sydney Sweeney in the project, which “Sweet Tooth” showrunner Jim Mickle is directing and writing. “Outer Banks” and “Queer” star Drew Starkey was in talks for the male lead but those talks never closed with Centineo now taking the part.
It’s presently unknown if the new film will tell an original story or be an adaptation of one of the prior series in the franchise. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the original series began in 1979 and is set in the Universal Century, an era in which people have emigrated to space colonies because of a growing population on Earth.
Those living in the colonies seek their autonomy and launch a war of independence with battles fought by piloting robots known as mobile suits.
The franchise is considered one of the most important and famous in all anime and spans 83 animated series and movies. Even today, decades after its creation, the toys generate over $600 million annually.
Grammy-nominated singer Benson Boone has also been reported as being potentially in contention for a role. Centineo is currently prepping to play John Rambo in the Rambo prequel.
