Netflix Nabs Edgerton & Saulnier’s “Trigger Point”

Netflix has won a bidding war for “Trigger Point,” a new A24-produced action-crime series starring Aussie actor Joel Edgerton. The streamer reportedly just beat out Apple TV for the title.

A straight-to-series order has been handed out for the eight-episode series, which hails from celebrated “Rebel Ridge” director Jeremy Saulnier, writer Harrison Query (“Heads of State”), and producer Joe Hipps (“Ozark”).

The story follows a group of former Tier One Special Forces Operators who sell their elite skills to the criminal underworld behind the front of a private military contracting firm – and the FBI agent who’s hunting for them.

Query will serve as showrunner, with Saulnier executive producing alongside Patrick McDonald and Katie Giarla. Query also wrote the novella “Code Black” which sold to Amazon earlier this year and has both Jake Gyllenhaal and Matt Reeves attached.

Edgerton is currently getting awards attention for his lead role in Clint Bentley’s “Train Dreams” which has just released on Netflix. He recently wrapped the second season of Apple TV’s “Dark Matter” which will air next year.

Multiple staight-to-series projects have sparked bidding wars lately including the Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning-led “Discretion” which also hails from A24, the adaptation of the comic “Black Hole,” and the Adam Driver-led “Rabbit, Rabbit”.
