Seven years after the sixth and seemingly final instalment arrived, The Asylum is set to resurrect the hit low-budget B-movie franchise “Sharknado”.
“Sharknado Origins” will begin production later this year with filmmaker Anthony Ferrante returning to the helm.
The original films began in 2013 and dealt with a tornado that sucked up great whites and hammerheads out of the ocean and spat them out all over Los Angeles.
The new film will follow teenage versions of Ian Ziering’s Fin and Tara Reid’s April as the two cross paths during a perfect summer as sparks immediately fly.
But just as Fin is about to seal the moment with a promise ring, the sky darkens, a massive funnel cloud forms, and sharks dramatically erupt from the ocean. Because “nothing says young love like airborne predators”.
Casting will be announced soon, with a summer 2026 release being targeted.
