FX has confirmed that the second season of “Shōgun” will begin shooting in January, with first-season stars Hiroyuki Sanada and Cosmo Jarvis set to reprise their roles of Lord Yoshii Toranaga and John Blackthorne respectively.
A very brief official synopsis has been released with the action set to take place a decade after the first season and “continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined”.
Newcomers for the new run include Asami Mizukawa as Aya, Masataka Kubota as Hyūga, Sho Kaneta as Hidenobu, Takaaki Enoki as Lord Ito and Jun Kunimura as Gōda.
Other returnees include Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno and Yuka Kouri.
Hiromi Kamata, Takeshi Fukunaga, Anthony Byrne, Kate Herron and series co-creator Justin Marks will direct episodes of the second season.
Rachel Kondo, Marks, Shannon Goss, Matt Lambert, Maegan Houang, Emily Yoshida, Caillin Puente and Sofie Somoroff pen the new season.
Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell and Michael De Luca and Sanada executive produce.
