Fraser, Weisz Return For New “The Mummy”

Universal Pictures

Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are in discussions to return for a new entry in “The Mummy” franchise at Universal Pictures.

Deadline reports that Radio Silence‘s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (“Scream VI,” “Ready or Not”) will direct from a script by David Coggeshall (“The Family Plan”).

Story details are under wraps but the pair are expected to reprise their famed roles of roguish American adventurer and former French Foreign Legion soldier Rick O’Connell and English Egyptologist Evelyn Carnahan.

The pair played the parts across the original 1999 film and 2001’s “The Mummy Returns”. Fraser returned solo for a third film with Maria Bello taking over the Evie role.

Both the original two films, directed by Stephen Sommers, grossed over $400 million worldwide.

Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein will produce.

Universal recently attempted to revive the IP with 2017’s failed “The Mummy” starring Tom Cruise.
