Video from the set of Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Network” follow-up, “The Social Reckoning”, indicates that the film will re-enact the January 6th insurrection in Washington D.C. in the United States.

Shooting kicked off this week in Vancouver, Canada with this being one of the first sequences shot for the movie – the Vancouver Art Gallery standing in for the U.S. Capitol building.

Vulture indicates witnesses on the scene spotted numerous extras holding American flags, camo gear and wearing MAGA hats as it recreated scenes in which rioters stormed the building to prevent the government from formalising Joe Biden’s victory in the U.S. Presidential election.

Video taken of filming on the set shows the extras dressed as rioters storming the steps as security attempts to end the insurrection.

The film will tell the true story of the 2021 Facebook Files, where engineer Frances Haugen teamed with the Wall Street Journal’s Jeff Horwitz to expose the company’s most dangerous secrets.

Theme-wise, the project aims to deal with the rise of online misinformation-for-profit and its larger impact on society. Haugen has reportedly previously argued that the social media giant “played a role in enabling the events of January 6”.

“The Social Reckoning” will open in cinemas October 9th 2026.
