“Stranger Things” Finale Set For 350 Cinemas

Netflix

Netflix has confirmed that the series finale of “Stranger Things” will score a theatrical release in over 350 cinemas in the U.S. and Canada on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

The two-day event will hold its first sessions at 8pm US-ET, those sessions commencing at the exact same time the series finale’s global premiere hits the Netflix streaming service.

The episode, titled “The Rightside Up,” marks the first time an episode of any Netflix series will also be exhibited theatrically.

Details on the specific theaters will be announced at a later date, according to an announcement from Netflix. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer say in a statement:

“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters – it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years, and we’re so grateful to Ted, Bela, and everyone at Netflix for making it happen. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect – dare we say bitchin’ – way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”

Netflix previously indicated it had no real interest in bringing the finale to cinemas, but a fan push for it combined with the Duffer’s desires for the possibility, appears to have led to this change of course.
