Walt Disney Animation Studios will release the “Zootopia” sequel in cinemas next month, and already the film is shaping up to be a monster.
Long range tracking forecasts over at Box Office Theory have indicated that early domestic opening weekend projections for “Zootopia 2” currently stand at $115-130 million for the three day.
Long range forecasts do fluctuate, but more often go up in estimate rather than down – especially for family animated fare. The number is considerably more than the $75.1 million the original film opened to in North America in 2016, the movie ultimately going on to gross just over $1 billion worldwide.
The film will also mark the first major studio animated release since “The Bad Guys 2” in August so anticipation is high. It will be one of two juggernauts at the box-office for the Thanksgiving holiday, the other being “Wicked: For Good” which opens the week before and is tracking for a massive $155 million debut. No other films in the next month are coming close to those projections – the next nearest being “The Running Man” with $22 million and “Predator: Badlands” with $20 million.
Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprise their respective vocal roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in “Zootopia 2” as they find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootopia and turns the mammal metropolis upside down.
To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before. Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimster, Idris Elba, Bonnie Hunt, Don Lake, Nate Torrence, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk lend their voices to the film opening November 26th.
