Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced a July 23rd 2027 release date for “A Minecraft Movie 2,” a sequel to this April’s hit film adaptation of the massively selling video game.
In addition, a poster has been released, which can be seen below. “A Minecraft Movie” opened six months ago and overcame mixed reviews to gross over $950 million worldwide, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 2025 so far.
The film also started an unfortunate craze with people trashing cinemas during the ‘chicken jockey’ scene, while the number of players engaging with the game itself saw big spikes.
Film sequel talk began right away, but it’s not clear which talents from either in front of or behind the camera will return.
Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge starred in the first film while Jared Hess directed from a screenplay written by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta.
Filming will presumably get underway early next year.
