“Clue” Scripted Series In The Works

Hasbro

The other day, news came that a Netflix competition reality series based on Hasbro’s murder mystery board game “Clue” was in the works.

Turns out it’s not the only project. Sony Pictures Television and Hasbro Entertainment are reportedly pursuing a scripted TV series adaptation of the classic game.

Writer/executive producer Dana Fox (“Wicked”) and director/executive producer Nicholas Stoller (“You’re Cordially Invited”) have reportedly taken the project out to market with several prospective buyers expressing interest.

In the series, a group of strangers are invited to an eccentric billionaire’s murder mystery night to solve the famous questions – who, where and with what – they quickly discover that nothing is what it seems to be, and the stakes are even higher than life or death.

Fox is writing and will serve as showrunner, Stoller is set to direct. The two executive produce alongside Gabriel Marano, Margy Love and Conor Welch.

Tone will be the key, but Fox and Stoller’s comedy chops suggest it will probably aim for a comedy whodunit approach. Whether it will embrace the full slapstick and wordplay of the beloved 1985 film adaptation is anyone’s guess.

Hasbro is also workng on a “Dungeons & Dragons” live-action series at Netflix and “Magic: The Gathering” for Legendary.
