Vertical has released the trailer for “Fast Five” director Justin Lin’s new true story biographical drama “Last Days” which releases in cinemas on October 24th.
The film follows 26-year-old American missionary John Allen Chau on his journey to fulfil his life’s mission by embarking on a dangerous adventure.
His aim was to illegally travel to and share his faith with the self-isolated and indigenous Sentinelese tribe of North Sentinel Island in the Indian Ocean.
At the same time, an Indian police detective from the Andaman Islands races to stop him from making contact before he does harm to himself or the tribe.
Chau attempted contact with the Sentinelese people multiple times before being killed by the tribe in 2018.
The Sentinelese tribe are extremely isolationist and aggressively hostile to outsiders. The Indian Government, which patrols the island to keep people away, will not prosecute the Sentinelese for killing people in the event that an outsider ventures ashore.
Screenwriter Ben Ripley adapted the Outside magazine article “The Last Days of John Allen Chau” by Alex Perry into the film’s script. Sky Yang, Radhika Apte, Naveen Andrews, Ken Leung, Toby Wallace, and Ciara Bravo also star.
