After his success with “Prey,” filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg returns with the upcoming “Predator: Badlands” film due out this Fall.
When the first trailer hit, a brief shot of Elle Fanning’s android character Thia showed that her character was manufactured by Weyland-Yutani – the sinister mega-corporation from the “Alien” films.
That has led go much speculation about a potential crossover between the two franchises again following the two previous film attempts two decades ago. Some are hoping ‘Badlands’ will go much further on that front than what we’ve seen.
Don’t count on it. Speaking with Empire, Trachtenberg indicates that logo easter egg might be the only one in the film and one thing you definitely won’t be getting are the Alien xenomorphs themselves:
“There’s no Xenomorph in this movie. But to me, that makes it more exciting. We’re not involving [the Alien franchise] just to smush the action figures together. There are great, organic story reasons for Weyland-Yutani to be in this film.”
The coomments come as the season finale of FX’s “Alien: Earth” has just gone online and reportedly ends on a cliffhanger, not a conclusion. A second season isn’t official as yet but seems highly likely at this point with showrunner Noah HAwley saying earlier this month he already has an end in mind for the series.
