It’s no secret that there’s a lot of divided opinion not just about the individual films within the “Star Wars” sequel trilogy, but of the trilogy overall.
It’s also fairly well known that those involved have had their misgivings about the films, from the behaviour of some of the more toxic elements of the fandom to issues with some of the creative decisions made regarding the story and where the focus on specific characters went.
Arguably the most vocal of the cast to share his take has been British actor John Boyega who played Finn across the trilogy who has discussed his issues multiple times, speaking about how his character got treated after “The Force Awakens” and of how the story played out.
Attending Florida Supercon 2025 recently, Boyega was asked an interesting question – what he would do differently if he were in charge of remaking the “Star Wars” sequels. He says don’t kill off legacy characters, don’t make the new characters so immediately well skilled, and use lore from the EU – specifically the games:
“First of all, we’re not getting rid of Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, all these people. We’re not doing that. The first thing we’re going to do is fulfill their story, fulfill their legacy. We’re going to make a good moment of handing on the baton. Luke Skywalker wouldn’t be disappearing on a rock. Hell no. Standing there and he’s, like, a projector? I would want to give those actors way more way more.
Our new characters will not be OP’d [overpowered] in these movies. They won’t just grab stuff and know what to do with it. No. You’ve got to struggle like every other character in this franchise. I’d do that.
I’d [also] look to the Old Republic stories, and see what we can add to the continuation of that. I would definitely want to see Force Unleashed stories in there. I would try to expand the Star Wars universe as much as possible while respecting the lore. If we’re expanding the lore, we have to do it in within the respective boundaries that stay true.”
Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill has also been vocal in the past about how he disagreed with Luke’s arc in the trilogy.
