Jon Bernthal returned to the Frank Castle/The Punisher role, this time in the MCU, for the “Daredevil: Born Again” series earlier this year. We last saw him escaping from Mayor Wilson Fisk’s makeshift prison.
It’s hardly the end of the character. The actor will return in a Special Presentation coming to Disney+ next year, which has already wrapped production, and is rumoured to appear in the second season of ‘Born Again’.
Right now, though, he’s in the midst of shooting a fairly major role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” in the UK. Rumors are that the character decides to start targeting superpowered criminals and runs afoul of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
In a posting on Instagram, the actor has off his physique and hair/beard look for the new film, captioning the photo ‘Back At It’. The look has drawn comparisons to the Rick Remender and Marco Checchetto run of the comic.
Rumors have swirled as to what villains will appear in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”, with the only confirmed one being Michael Mando’s Scorpion thus far. Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang, Ramrod, Mister Negative and even Norman Osborn have all been rumored.
Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Liza Colón-Zayas co-star in the film, which Destin Daniel Cretton directs. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” will be released in theaters on July 31st 2026.
