DiCaprio, J-Law To Lead Scorsese’s “Night”

Warner Bros. Picture, MUBI

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence have been set as the leads in filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s next feature, an adaptation of the ghost story novel “What Happens at Night” at Studiocanal. Apple Original Films is negotiating to finance and produce.

The project follows in the wake of much speculation about what both DiCaprio and Scorsese would be teaming on next with many expecting it to be a Hawaiian crime drama also starring Dwayne Johnson.

That looks to have slipped to the back burner with this project targeting a January start and will see Scorsese re-team with Apple and DiCaprio following their work together on “Killers of the Flower Moon”. Both men’s production companies have first look deals with the tech giant.

Previously, Scorsese was only slated to produce the project for which Patrick Marber penned the script based on the Peter Cameron novel. The dream-like story follows a married American couple who travel to a small, snowy European town to adopt a baby.

They check into a cavernous, largely deserted hotel where they encounter an enigmatic cast of characters including a flamboyant chanteuse, a depraved businessman and a charismatic faith healer. Nothing is quite as it seems in this strange, frozen world.

As the couple struggle to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about themselves and the life they’ve built together. The title announcement comes as the DiCaprio-led “One Battle After Another” is set to open next Friday and has received jaw droppingly great pre-release buzz.
