Second Trailer: Daniel Day-Lewis In “Anemone”

Focus Features

Eight years after seemingly retiring from acting with 2017’s “Phantom Thread,” Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis has returned for his son’s new movie “Anemone” which released a new trailer today.

Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley and Safia Oakley-Green also star in the dark thriller which Ronan Day-Lewis directs for Focus Features and Plan B.

Set in the late 1980s in Yorkshire, the story reportedly revolves around two estranged brothers – a suburban dweller (Bean) and an ex-soldier turned reclusive hermit living in the woods (Day‑Lewis). The pair confront buried trauma from their past.

Also, family bonds between fathers, sons and brothers are explored as complex relationships unfold through personal journeys and generational conflicts.

Father and son co-wrote the film’s script, and Universal Pictures International will distribute internationally for Focus.

“Anemone” will premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival shortly followed by a limited theatrical release in the U.S. on October  3rd, with expansion on October 10th.
