A War Looms In “The Diplomat” S3 Trailer

Netflix

Netflix has premiered the full trailer for the third season of its acclaimed Keri Russell-led political drama series “The Diplomat” which returns on October 16th.

The trailer shows off the two new key additions to the cast. Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing,” “Cabin in the Woods”) joins as Todd Penn, the new ‘First Husband’ to the United States. Additionally, Aidan Turner (“The Hobbit,” “Poldark”) joins as what appears to be a potential new love interest for Kate in a key recurring guest star role.

The events of The Diplomat’s second season had a shocking conclusion and the trailer shows how the new season picks up just moments later and will deal with the fallout of that – including what appears to be a potential for the end of the UK-US ‘Special Relationship’.

Caught in a whirlwind of crisis diplomacy, US ambassador to the UK Kate Wyler (Keri Russell) must navigate a fragile new administration and a deadly threat with world-shaping consequences.

Kate also steps into a role she never wanted, with a freedom she never expected, an increasingly complicated friendship with Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and an unnerving bond with the new first husband Todd Penn (Bradley Whitford).

Also back are Rufus Sewell as Kate’s husband Hal, Allison Janney as U.S. President Grace Penn, Ali Ahn as CIA Station Chief Eidra Park, Ato Essandoh as Deputy Chief of Mission Stuart Hayford, and Rory Kinnear as British Prime Minister Nicol Trowbridge.

Created by showrunner and executive producer Debora Cahn, the show is already at work on a fourth season to air next year.
