DiCaprio In “Heat 2” Rumors Get Warmer

Warner Bros. Pictures

Last month came a report from Puck News about the concerns over the budget for Michael Mann’s “Heat 2”.

It suggested the script had been submitted to Apple for consideration to potentially partner with Warner Bros. Pictures on the project. Additionally the outlet cited that Leonardo DiCaprio name had entered the casting mix for the film alongside previously rumored names like Adam Driver and Austin Butler.

Now, World of Reel has done an update on that report saying according to their sources, weeks of negotiations has led to Leonardo DiCaprio being set to star in the film – one of two projects he’ll film next year alongside Martin Scorsese’s Hawaii-set crime drama.

The trades or studio have not confirmed this at this time though. If they have managed to snag DiCaprio, that immediately makes the film even more of an event, especially as the report adds that “a few major casting surprises await” with the overall cast being an ‘all-timer’.

82-year-old Mann is now laying the groundwork for the film, a prequel-sequel hybrid that follows the early days of Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro in the original) and Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino in the original), while also following Hanna’s hunt for Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer in the original) in the aftermath of the original film’s climax.

Reports are Mann is also intending to shoot this on film, the first time he’s done so since 1999’s “The Insider”.
