Amazon Prime Video has multiple game-to-TV series adaptations in the works following the success of “Fallout” with titles based on “Mass Effect,” “Warhammer 40,000,” and “Wolfenstein” among others on the way.
One of the biggest though is “God of War,” based on the celebrated PlayStation franchise and more specifically the Norse-era version of the reboot era.
After hitting development issues originally, things finally got moving a year ago when “Battlestar Galactica” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” alum Ronald D. Moore came onboard as showrunner.
Last week came a report that a March start of filming date in Vancouver has been set for the ten episode run which would suggest casting is about to get underway. Now, earlier this week, former AMC Movie News host John Campea has claimed (via Reddit) to have seen a shortlist for the lead role of Kratos.
It’s said the shortlist contains the following names: Henry Cavill, Winston Duke, Joe Manganiello, Christopher Judge, Manu Bennett, Jason Momoa, Travis Fimmel, Oliver Ritchers, Dave Bautista, Paul Levesque
While many of the names seem more like wishlist casting than anything else, especially Cavill and Bautista who are booked solid with projects for some time, some are interesting. The inclusion of former “Stargate” actor Judge is not unexpected as he plays Kratos in the games, but his age and other factors could be an issue.
It has previously been confirmed that Amazon has already committed to two seasons and Moore is working closely with game director Cory Barlog to ensure the series remains faithful to the original games.
