Amazon’s long-gestating live-action “God of War” TV series look like it’s finally ready to traverse the Nine Realms.
Nexus Point News reports that a March 2026 start of filming date has been set for the series in Vancouver. Casting is reportedly about to get underway which suggests we may get a live-action Kratos announcement before year’s end.
The show’s first season is expected to run ten episodes and be set in the more recent Norse era of the PlayStation-exclusive games as opposed to the Ancient Greek setting of the earlier titles.
The story will focus on Kratos and his son Atreus, with the aim being to emulate the tone of the game. Back in July came word that scripts are still being written for the show which has game director Cory Barlog heavily involved.
First announced in 2022, the series was originally being written by “The Expanse” creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, with Rafe Judkins (“The Wheel of Time”) serving as showrunner to the series.
Then last year, Sony and Amazon both reportedly wanted to go in a different direction and all three exited the project. At that point former “Star Trek” writer turned “Battlestar Galactica,” “For All Mankind,” and “Outlander” creator Ronald D. Moore came onboard.
Moore is serving as the series’ lead writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Hermen Hulst, and Roy Lee will executive produce.
