Lip Sync Battle Dance ‘Haunts’ Tom Holland

He’s played Spider-Man in films that have earned billions, he helped the “Uncharted” film reach over $400 million at the box-office, and he’s got some acclaimed dramas under his belt.

But if there’s one thing British actor Tom Holland is arguably best known for, it is for doing the single most memorable dance in “Lip Sync Battle” back in 2017 – a number that went viral and which he says has followed him everywhere he goes.

During a recent cooking segment with Gordon Ramsay, he revealed: “Honestly, of all the pieces of work I’ve done… the Lip Sync Battle is the thing that everyone brings up. It’s never Spider-Man, it’s never any of my other movies – it’s always Lip Sync Battle. It haunts me.”

Doing a bit of bait-and-switch, what starts out as a conventional even old fashioned number set to “Singin’ in the Rain” morphs into a gender-bending, highly acrobatic and energetic routine set to Rihanna’s “Umbrella”.

From Holland donning fishnet stockings and doing mid-air flips, to multiple dancers splashing about in water, it’s something of a technical marvel which was received so well that it understandably remains one of (if not the) most talked about moments of the show with a universally positive response.

Holland tells Ramsay the original plan was to do something far more demure, but things kept getting more and more elaborate. As for the fishnets, turned out they were his grandma’s.

Holland continues filming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” in Glasgow presently, that film set to release in cinemas on July 31st 2026.
