The first trailer for James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash” leaked online early yesterday with the studio quickly shooting down the bootlegs, but not fast enough to stop them from reappearing.
Reports emerged earlier this week that the first trailer for the third film in the series would be debuting sometime within the next month, further reports then refined that debut date down to sometime next week with the clip attached to copies of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”.
The leaked trailer, which was in a rough shape with low-quality video yesterday and is now in effectively low bitrate HD today, appears to confirm this. The preview is quite long, and showcases various scenes including some revealed in production art that has been released so far – including sky ships of the Wind Traders and members of the new Ash tribe.
Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully, Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri and Oona Chaplin’s Carang are all featured in the clip. The film itself also stars Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, Giovanni Ribisi as Parker Selfridge, Kate Winslet as Ronal, Cliff Curtis as Tonowari, Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman, and Edie Falco as General Frances Ardmore.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” opened in cinemas in 2022, and though it cost a considerable $400 million to produce it ended up grossing over $2 billion worldwide.
This third film is due out on December 19th. After that there will be a gap, with the fourth and fifth film currently due for release in 2029 and 2031 respectively.
