Indian action film star Vidyut Jammwal (“Commando”) has scored the key role of Dhalsim in the new live-action “Street Fighter” movie at Legendary Pictures and Capcom.
One of the core eight characters from the legendary “Street Fighter II” game, Dhalsim is a mystical yogi and pacifist who enters the tournament to support his family and village. He’s also known to be able to spit fire and stretch his limbs to extreme lengths.
Jammwal reportedly has been very deliberate about the project with which he wants to introduce himself in the U.S. market, opting on picking this project. With this casting, the only core playable character from “Street Fighter II” yet to be announced is Russian wrestler Zangief.
Jammwal joins a cast that includes Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.
Kitao Sakurai (“Bad Trip”) helms the project with the story remaining under wraps though likley to revolve around a global fighting tournament. The project is slated to begin shooting next month in Australia.
The games have sold over 55 million units worldwide since launch, making it one of the most well-known and highest-grossing of all time.
