As expected, Joseph Kosinski’s racing action feature “F1,” starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, has taken the top spot at the box-office both domestically and overseas.
The Apple-produced and Warner Bros-distributed title is reportedly set to pull in $55.6 million domestically and a total of $144 million worldwide by end of Sunday, while the film also landed an ‘A’ CinemaScore in audience exit polls.
That suggests its fortunes will continue into this coming week and next week’s holiday weekend, despite stiff competition from “Jurassic World Rebirth”.
“M3GAN 2.0” got squashed by the wheels of “F1,” the killer AI doll sequel tanked on the starting line with a fourth place domestic start of $10.2 million.
Second and third went to the live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” and Pixar’s “Elio” which snagged $19.4 million and $10.7 million respectively – drops of 47% and 49% in the former’s third weekend and latter’s second weekend.
Fifth went to “28 Years Later” which plummeted 68% in its second weekend but has managed to pass the $100 million worldwide mark. The live-action “Lilo & Stitch” meanwhile has reached the $946 million global box-office mark.
