Robert Eggers Plans New “A Christmas Carol”

FX

Hot off the success of his “Nosferatu” remake from late last year, filmmaker Robert Eggers is lining up a new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” at Warner Bros. Pictures.

No actors are currently attached to the project which is in a very early stage, but his long-time lucky charm Willem Dafoe is widely expected to be a part of the new feature following his and Eggers’ successful collaborations on the Lovecraft-meets-Melville style “The Lighthouse” and the dark Norse epic “The Northman”.

The original 1843 Dickens novella has been translated to the screen many times with the likes of “Scrooged,” “A Myppets Christmas Carol,” a 2009 CG take from Robert Zemeckis, a Disney short film involving Scrooge McDuck, and a 2019 TV mini-series from Steven Knight.

The project will come after Eggers’ next film “Werwulf” which has been set up at Focus, and will mark his first movie with Warner Bros. Pictures.

“Nosferatu” was a box office smash for the speciality distributor, grossing $181 million globally and landing four Oscar nominations across cinematography, costume design, production design and makeup/hair styling.
