IO Interactive has premiered the first trailer for “007 First Light,” the first James Bond game from the studio behind the highly acclaimed “Hitman: World of Assassination” trilogy.
Debuting as part of PlayStation‘s State of Play Presentation on Wednesday, the company confirms that a gameplay reveal will be coming this summer.
Interestingly, the game is building its Bond from the ground up – so no previous Bond actor likenesses are used here. The game instead follows a wholly original Bond origin story as players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status.
Powered by their proprietary Glacier game engine, the clip shows a mix of cinematics, gameplay and in-engine footage and goes into Bond origins, from the climbing accident that took his parents when he was at a young age, to including the right cheek scar that Fleming described but the film’s have avoided.
There’s even use of John Barry’s iconic “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” theme for a brief section of the trailer. It’s not been announced who is playing Bond here, but the likeness and voice have drawn quick comparisons to “Dexter: Original Sin” leading man Patrick Gibson.
IO Interactive says the game will be enhanced for PlayStation 5 Pro, using PSSR and having optimized performance making the game playable at 60 FPS in Quality Mode.
It has been previously indicated that if it is a success, this could become a trilogy like 2016’s “Hitman” reboot was.
