“Flash,” “Constantine” Games Were Scrapped

Warner Bros. Pictures

After the very strong “Batman: Arkham” games, attempts to turn more DC properties into major AAA games have failed.

2022 saw WB Games Montreal bringing “Gotham Knights,” an abandoned live service turned co-op centric middling game that received mixed reviews with harsh criticism of its story, loot system, and production values – looking notably worse than the ‘Arkham’ trilogy which was made a decade before.

2024 gave us Rocksteady’s “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” a disastrous live-service title that was widely panned and lost Warners $200 million.

Now, a new report at Bloomberg has revealed that two further games were in the works at WB Games Montreal but have since been scrapped – “The Flash” and “Constantine”.

The report indicates a game based on “Hellblazer” comic hero John Constantine was pitched and the higher-ups were excited about it, the game never made it beyond a pitch due to execs being “noncommittal” over budgets and timeline.

Games based on Joker or The Flash were also considered, and the studio initially chose The Flash until the project was scrapped due to the Ezra Miller-led movie’s performance at the box office.

The company reportedly wanted to make a ‘Version 1.5’ of “Gotham Knights,” basically to try and fix the various issues with the game, but were instead put to work on supporting “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” and are now currently doing a pitch for a video game based on “Game of Thrones”.
