Long-lead tracking figures via Quorum are in, and it’s going to be a very busy time at the Thanksgiving box-office next month.
Disney’s “Moana 2” is reportedly on track for a domestic opening weekend of over $105 million over the five-day Wednesday through Sunday run, with $75-82 million of that from the Friday-Sunday portion.
That would beat the $82 million the 2016 original film debut to over its first five days. That film went on to gross $248.7 million stateside.
It would also mark Disney’s biggest Thanksgiving Day breakout since “Frozen 2” pulled in $125 million in 2019 during that window. “Moana 2” is currently tracking big with under-25 females.
The film’s three-day number is also tracking bigger than either “Wicked: Part One” or “Gladiator II” which open the week before and are tipped to pull in $67-74 million and $42-47 million respectively in their three-day debuts.
The sequel’s first trailer was Disney’s most watched ever for an animated movie, racking up 178 million views in 24 hours.
