Cretton To Direct “Spider-Man 4”

Sony, Marvel

There’s finally movement on the fourth “Spider-Man”.

“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is reportedly in talks to sign on to direct the “Spider-Man 4” at Marvel and Sony Pictures.

Cretton takes over for Jon Watts who directed the previous three Holland-starring movies. Marc Webb helmed the two Andrew Garfield films while Sam Raimi directed the Tobey Maguire trilogy.

Tom Holland will remain in the role here with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers handling the script. Marvel head Kevin Feige and former Sony chief Amy Pascal are producing.

The last film ended with the world magically forgetting who teenager Peter Parker was, including his friends and girlfriend MJ (Zendaya).

Cretton’s “Shang-Chi” is considered one of the best post-“Avengers: Endgame” films and Cretton was slated to direct “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” before exiting in November. More recently he’s been showrunning Marvel’s “Wonder Man” series which is now in post-production.

He also remains attached to a “Shang-Chi” sequel and a live-action “Naruto” film, but “Spider-Man 4” is racing ahead and will shoot early next year – meaning those will likely go on the back burner.
