Trailer: Baz Luhrmann’s “Faraway Downs” Series

Hulu

Hulu has premiered the first trailer for Baz Luhrmann’s six-part limited series “Faraway Downs” ahead of the show’s premiere on the streamer on November 26th.

The series is a recut of the “Moulin Rouge”and “Elvis” director’s $130 million-budgeted 165-minute 2008 period drama epic “Australia” – re-edited and expanded with deleted footage.

The result can be seen in the trailer which offers a more serious and somber tone than the original film which, at times, played out a bit goofy at points.

Set during World War II, the story centers on an English aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman), who travels halfway across the world to confront her wayward husband and sell an unusual asset: a million-acre cattle ranch in the Australian Outback called Faraway Downs.

A ruthless Australian cattle baron named King Carney (Bryan Brown) plots to take her land, and she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle drover (Hugh Jackman) to protect her ranch. Soon a love affair between the two begins. Brandon Walters, David Wenham, Jack Thompson and David Gulpilil co-star.

The series will serve as the closing title of the inaugural SXSW Sydney Screen Festival on October 21st with a world premiere. Then it will launch worldwide in the Star section of Disney+ on November 26th.
