The first two photos have been released showing off Angelina Jolie as famed diva Maria Callas for Pablo Larrain’s upcoming biopic “Maria”.
The independent production signed a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement with the shoot clear to go ahead over the next two months in Paris, Greece, Budapest and Milan.
The story follows the lively and tragic story of the famed opera singer, dealing with her final days in solitude in 1970s Paris.
A Greek immigrant in New York, Callas rose to be the most celebrated soprano of her time and the long-time paramour of Greek ship magnate Aristotle Onassis.
Onassis left her to marry Jackie Kennedy and Callas moved to Italy, then to France. She never fully recovered from the betrayal and died of a heart attack at age 52.
The cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Valeria Golino.
“Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight penned the film which is a biopic trilogy capper for Larrain following the Natalie Portman-led “Jackie” and Kristen Stewart-led “Spencer”.
Larrain is coming off his Pinochet as a vampire black comedy film “El Conde” at Netflix. Jolie most recently directed “Without Blood” starring Salma Hayek.
