“One Piece” Showrunner Talks Loguetown Cut

Netflix

Netflix’s live-action “One Piece” series seems to be adopting the approach of adapting one ‘saga’ of the manga and anime per season (there are ten sagas in all).

The first eight-episode season tackled five of the six ‘arcs’ that make up the ‘East Blue Saga’, effectively turning 95 chapters of the 1,000+ chapter manga into a workable series.

However it notably misses the small five-chapter Loguetown arc which introduces Smoker (teased in the post-credits scene) and visits the place where Gold Roger was born. Why? Turns out the streamer cut their episode order which prevented it.

Participating in a Reddit AMA this weekend, showrunner Matt Owens was asked about the skipping of the Loguetown arc and Owens says:

“Skipped? Never! It wasn’t included in season one because our episode number got reduced. And to try to cram it in would not have done service to it or the story it had to share space with. Lougetown is not ‘cut’, we just haven’t gotten there yet.”

With the show’s success on Netflix, hopefully next season will see its order expanded to not only include the Loguetown arc but fully encompass the second saga – the ‘Arabasta’ saga, which introduces fan favorite characters like Tony Tony Chopper and Nico Robin.
