Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, also known as Bad Bunny, has spoken about the situation regarding the Sony Marvel project “El Muerto” to which he was previously tied.
The actor exited the film earlier this year following announcing it at CinemaCon last year. The project was pulled from Sony’s release schedule in June and hadn’t begun filming because further script work was required and the writer’s strike had begun by that point.
Another factor is Bad Bunny’s touring schedule which was firmed up while the movie was stalled. “Desierto” and “Chupa” director Jonas Cuaron, son of Alfonso Cuaron, was to direct the film, which was to have been the first live-action Marvel project to star a Latino lead – the character is an antihero and the son of a luchador.
Now, in a feature with Vanity Fair, Bad Bunny was asked about what happened with “El Muerto”. The outlet says this led to “an awkward silence” followed by his publicist saying “next question”. Bad Bunny then briefly stated: “I don’t know what to say” adding that the issue is “delicate”. The publicist then said: “Obviously, it’s out.”
The star had some more to say about what he’s looking for in future roles:
“As a movie consumer myself, I’m not one to watch a lot of action movies. I’d even say it’s my least favorite genre. I would really like to play other kinds of things, like a little bit more drama, romance too, or comedy… [maybe] a history movie with a little action in it.”
The next installments in the Sony Spider-Man Universe will be “Madame Web” on February 12th 2024 and “Kraven the Hunter” on August 30th 2024.
