Trailer: “The Prince of Egypt: The Musical”

The musical stage adaptation of Dreamworks Animation’s celebrated 1998 film “The Prince of Egypt” is coming to screens with a theatrical release planned in select countries timed with the 25th anniversary of the original movie.

The 2017 musical, like the animated film that inspired it, is based on the Biblical Book of Exodus and follows the life of Moses from being a prince of Egypt to his ultimate destiny of leading the Children of Israel out of Egypt.

It boasts music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (“Wicked”), and a book by Philip LaZebnik which includes five songs from the original film – “Deliver Us,” “When You Believe,” “All I Ever Wanted,” “The Plagues” and “Through Heaven’s Eyes” – along with another dozen or so new songs.

Reviews for the production were mixed, with some taking issue with changes from the original film. Luke Brady stars as Moses opposite Liam Tamne as Ramses.

Filmed live at London’s West End, the theatrical debut of the stage production will hit cinemas in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and parts of Europe on October 19th followed by a further European release on December 4th

In the U.S., the film will hit the BroadwayHD streaming service on November 15th and then a digital release on December 5th. The release follows on from a 4K Ultra HD disc remaster of the original film released a few months ago.
