November will see the return of Russell T. Davies as showrunner on “Doctor Who” and, ahead of that, his prior work on the series is now finally making the jump to high definition.
The BBC has announced that the first four seasons of the revival era of “Doctor Who,” covering the complete adventures of the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) and Tenth Doctor (David Tennant), is coming to Blu-ray in a single box-set.
The collection will include all sixty episodes and specials from the first four series – running from 2005’s “Rose” through to 2010’s “The End of Time Part II” all newly upscaled to high definition using “the latest technology”.
Existing bonus features and a new specially shot extra are also included. This will mark the first time those episodes will be available in HD as the program didn’t make the jump to high-def until those final Tennant specials – thus, early episodes have only ever been available in standard definition.
The 18-disc box-set will hit on November 13th, right around the time the three Tennant-led 60th Anniversary specials are expected to go to air. Those specials will premiere exclusively on the BBC in the UK and Ireland and on Disney+ internationally.
