Universal Pictures and Blumhouse’s upcoming film adaptation of the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” video game franchise has scored PG-13 rating for “strong violent content, bloody images, and language” from the MPA.
The film was originally slated to have “Adventures in Babysitting” and “Home Alone” director Chris Columbus helming, so the rating doesn’t come as a huge shock.
It also continues Blumhouse’s recent trend with PG-13 horror films following “M3GAN” in January and “Insidious: The Red Door” the other week – both of which have made over $150 million each at the box-office.
Emma Tammi directed the project, which follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through.
Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterton, and Kat Conner Sterling star in the film, which was co-written by Tammi, Scott Cawthon, and Seth Cuddeback. Cawthon and Jason Blum produce.
“Five Nights at Freddy” will release simultaneously in cinemas and on Peacock in the United States on October 27th.
