Lionsgate has shuffled around its release calendar. First up, the game-to-film adaptation “Borderlands” has finally set a release date, with the studio locking down an August 9th 2024 debut for the film – more than three years after it was first filmed.
That project has since undergone additional photography handled by “Terminator: Dark Fate” filmmaker Tim Miller as Roth has been busy with his “Thanksgiving” slasher film. Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Jamie Lee Curtis star.
Next, the inspirational period tale “White Bird: A Wonder Story”, which was slated for August 25th, will now roll out sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
Then Jonathan Levine’s “Dirty Dancing” sequel has been pushed back by more than a year from February 9th 2024, to sometime in Summer 2025. Jennifer Grey will reprise her role in the sequel to the 1987 classic.
Lionsgate has also moved up “Saw X” by a month, with that tenth instalment now arriving on September 29th. The film will be set between the first and second movies as Jigsaw/John Kramer goes to Mexico for an experimental medical procedure – only to find it’s a scam and leading him to return to his work.
Elsewhere Cineverse has officially acquired the North American rights to the Chinese animated epic fantasy “Warrior King” and has set an August 25th release.
This is merely a hint at what’s to come as the ongoing actor’s and writer’s strikes are expected to have a massive impact on the release calendar over the coming weeks, with quite a few films likely to be delayed significantly.
