Filmmaker Wes Anderson has “Asteroid City” out in cinemas now and has the Netflix short film anthology piece “The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar” on the way later this year.
Yet his attention has already turned towards his next film, which is being dubbed an espionage thriller and will star Benicio del Toro.
Speaking to French outlet LeMonde, he says the film will focus on a father-daughter relationship and will sport a dark tone along with a linear timeline. In addition, del Toro will reportedly be “in every shot” of the movie.
Benicio del Toro starred in Anderson’s last film, “The French Dispatch”, as Moses Rosentahler – an artist that’s imprisoned and strikes up a romance with guard Simone (Lea Seydoux).
Separately in an interview with Cahiers Du Cinema, walked back that ‘dark tone’ descriptor saying as he’s begun working on it he’s finding it’s not as dark as he expected:
“My intention was to make a particularly dark film. But while working on it, I’m heading in another direction, and it will probably be less dark than expected. It will be a lot about family, even more so than in ‘Asteroid City’.”
del Toro joins Michael Cera in the film, and it’s not clear when Anderson will shoot the project.
